On the 24th of June 2020 Emirates announced that it would be restarting A380 flights to Paris Charles De Gaulle (CDG) and London Heathrow (LHR) on the 15th of July.With the majority of the A380’s either grounded or being put into and early retirement it looked like there was no future for the aircraft.However news has surfaced of another A380 carrier looking to bring the aircraft back into service in August.

A very bad year for the A380

2020 has been a very bad year for the A380 with the last aircraft entering the production line and the coronavirus grounding nearly all of the aircraft type also forcing Air France to retire the aircraft early.However seven months into the year some good news has come to light.Along with Emirates ,the worlds largest operator of the superjumbo, Singapore Airlines is now looking to restart A380 flights to London’s Heathrow airport from the 1st of August.

With the coronavirus pandemic still impacting and social distancing measures set to be with us well into 2021 the A380 could be the aircraft of choice for airlines as it would enable them to reduce the number of aircraft they need to put on a route as the aircraft would be better suited to social distancing than smaller single decker, twin isle aircraft.

Although this is welcome news ,this is only two out of the 15 airlines that operate the Airbus A380.But hopefully this is signalling in the return of the superjumbo’s to our skies earlier than expected.What do you think of this news?Let us know in the comments below.
