Airbus A350 VS. Boeing 787

There is no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected air travel and airline industry. These effects eventually quickened the retirement of the 4 engines airliners such as the 747 and the A380. Those aircraft were always known for its features of its long-haul flights. And nowadays, Airbus A350 & Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft becoming airlines’ favourite.

In today’s article we will show the similarities and differences between those two airliners, and why they are considered to be airlines’ favorite.

So basically; they’re both long range, twin-engine and wide-bodied aircraft. Both models are the first large commercial aircraft to be constructed extensively from carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP), which doesn’t corrode or suffer from exhaustion to the same range as a traditional aluminium fuselage and wings.

The CFRP also allows the cabin to bear higher pressure. The pressure inside the cabin of the 787 Dreamliner and A350 is equivalent to about 6000 feet-about 2000 feet lower than aboard a conventional aircraft-which means more oxygen in your lungs, more moisture in the air and a more comfortable flight.

They both use LED lighting systems in the cabins, which are smoother on the eye and allow an airline to customise the lighting according to the time of day, or even to match with its brand colours.

The most common of the three A350 variants is the A350-900. On the other hand, the 787-9 is the most common out of three variants.

A350-900 can carry 325 passengers while the 787-9 can carry 280 passengers, in a typical three-class configuration.

The range for the A350 is 15,000 kilometres, whilst the range is 14,140 kilometres for the Boeing 787.

The 787’s ground uses electrical systems to control flaps, rudder, elevators etc, instead of the hydraulic systems found on traditional commercial airliners including the Airbus A350 which leads to 1.45 megawatts being the total electrical power generated, and this is five times greater than aboard traditional commercial airliners!

Windows on the 787 are 65% larger than a traditional airliner window, and they’re not similar to any airliner Boeing nominated for electro-chromatic dimmable windows, a fancy name for windows that dim via a switch.

The typical ambient noise level on A350’s cabin at cruising altitude is 57 decibels, this is equal to the volume of a normal conversation!

The A350 has the tallest roofing of any commercial aircraft as well as a supersize overhead bins. According to Airbus, every passenger can travel with a carry-on bag of maximum dimensions, which should ensure that even the last passengers to board a full cabin should find abundant stowage space.

Last but not least, the Airbus has tail camera, the Boeing doesn’t! Watching the world below unfurl like a magic carpet is at least as good as the inflight entertainment.
