It is claimed that these solar panels will save almost RM15 million in electricity bills throughout a 21-year period. This project is the largest roof installation on a single site for the TNB. The solar photovoltaic (PV) panels will provide a capacity of 2.210-megawatt at peak (MWp) and generating about 2.86 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean energy per year.

This project will be completed on April 2021 and will reduce the carbon emission footprint on the environment. As it is expected to diminish about 2,022 metric ton of carbon dioxide emissions in the first year only. In other words it is equal to 12,197 cars taken off the road or planting 933,520 trees as TNB President/Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said.

Amir Hamzah added “TNB has taken a firm position with its recently renewed aspiration to be a leading provider of sustainable energy solutions in Malaysia and internationally. To this end, we will be driving a significant shift in our generation portfolio towards more renewable sources, and have stated our intent to make the recently commissioned Jimah East Power Plant in Negeri Sembilan, TNB’s last greenfield coal-fired power plant.”

It will be great move for TNB to achieve the goal of steadily building the renewable energy portfolio not only domestically but also internationally. This partnership will also support the economy by building a solar manufacturing hub in Malaysia.
