All Luxuries of Air Travel in One Airport (HIA)

For most people, an airport is a place they travel to or through, spending waiting period in. The airports in the past weren’t a place for enjoying flights, or having exciting experiences. Hamad International Airport (HIA) is a different one, it isn’t just a place for taking flights off or landing, it’s like a new experience. Hamad International Airport is the international airport of Doha, the capital city of Qatar. The airport has been described as the most architecturally significant terminal complex in the world, as well as being the most luxurious. It is the hub airport for Qatar Airways. This place gathering technology and art at the same time, caring about details in a world full of contradictions and changed priorities. This airport was a dream of Qatar’s leader from 2003, Hamad’s International Airport is sorting as one of the top-rated airports in the world.

Architecture

This airport was built on land that didn’t exist, raising from the blue gulf water. 6.2 million cubic meters of waste were removed. The terminal is around 600 hundred square meters. Because of it‘s size, it’s said not to be the city airport but, the airport city. Most airports are usually closed at 11pm at night until 6am in the morning. However, in HIA, everything is open 24 hours. The entrance is full of air features, glass, and steel windows. Behind the scene, there are huge numbers of workers, employees, and flight crews.

Art

Hamad International Airport contains a world-class art collection, which is made by Qatari artists and famous painters and sculptors all over the world. The figure of the flying man which was designed by the Iraqi painter and sculptor Dia Azzawi refers to the first Arabian human attempt to fly in 800 BC. Some arts are made for surprising the travelers, like “Lamp Bear” one of the first works which acquired in the airport. It’s made by the Swiss artist “Urs Fischer”, it’s 23 feet tall, 20 tonnes and, sculpted from bronze. People like to take photos beside it.

Lounges

There are 12 lounges at the airport, one of them is oryx lounge, which is located next to the airport hotel. Also, al Morgan business class lounge where you can relax and feel quiet. In El Safwa first class lounge is designed in very wide spaces and excellent materials to achieve relaxation, where very good food, drinks, and first-class services. There are family rooms, a resort, a spa, and a tax-free shop. There is a tailor shop, that you can buy your clothes and make alteration while you are waiting. There is also a building for sleep and relaxation. There is a very high designed gym and fitness center, and golf simulator.

Catering and Cargo

There is the Qatar Aircraft Catering Company (QACC), it’s a huge building 69 hundred square kilometers space with 2000 employees working in. About 150 hundred meals are produced per day. HIA contains the biggest and most important modern air cargo building in the world. The company has special QR Fresh and QR Pharma for transmitting perishable, sensitive for heat and medical items, also QR live for precious cargo for pets and exotic birds.

Cleaning

The workers in HIA make great efforts in keeping the place very clean and quiet without being noticed by people. Many women and men are working very hard for keeping a high level of cleanliness and comfort for the travelers, as this airport has so many glass windows. For instance, the airport’s mosque contains more than 1600 triangular black tinted panes, so specific cleaning staff cleans it twice a week.

Check-In

In most airports check-in take a long time because of checking travelers identity. But at HIA, there is a new smart technology for checking identity, by merging your flight, your passport, and facial recognition, all of this in one record. By submitting your face in check-in gates, also there are 140 for traditional check-in gates. There are also 16 business class counters. Luggages are also observed while being carried away thanks to a system that tracks the current position of every bag. For those people who leave the airport, there is a metro station. It leaves to downtown Doha every five minutes.

Last, Al-Meer, the airport’s chief operating officer said: “As the Official Airport Partner for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, HIA is ready to create memorable experiences for football fans across the globe and ensure seamless connectivity through the airport”.
