Boeing Planes Will Serve in Saudi Skies Soon:

Early this month, Saudi Arabia ordered 121 Boeing jetliners for two Saudi airlines, Riyadh Air and Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAUDIA). The two airlines decide to buy 787 Dreamliner airplanes, basically 787-9s. According to the American aircraft manufacturer, 787-9s can operate flights up to 14,140 km (7,635 NM) long and accommodate 300 passengers. Riyadh Air plans to buy 39 787-9s, possibly buying 33 more. According to Tony Douglas, CEO of Riyadh Air, this deal reflects the future vision of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia towards its aviation sector. SAUDIA also placed its order to buy 39 787-9s and this transaction can include 10 planes more. Though Riyadh Air seeks 787-9s, SAUDIA is interested in both 787-9 and 787-10 models. But, nothing is final yet. Development is good, but what is really behind this deal?

The American Perspective:

According to U.S. sources, Boeing was seeking a deal with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for three years. The White House welcomed this deal describing it as a “landmark”. why not, this deal will support about 1 million jobs in 44 states across the U.S. supply chain, including 150,000 new ones. However, what about the Saudi Kingdom?

The Saudi Perspective:

In light of its new development in the aviation sector, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman formally announced the establishment of a new national airline, Riyadh Air. Starting from scratch, the Saudi Crown Prince aimed to invest in a new airline to modernize the Saudi aviation sector. This announcement was made two days before revealing the Boeing deal. According to Riyadh Air, the new Boeing planes will serve as its fundamental airplanes. Therefore, this deal is a win-win situation for both sides.
