The Ethiopian Aviation Academy (EAA), the largest pilot training center in Africa, is evolving into a fully functional university that offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. As part of the Ethiopian Airlines Group, EAU will play a critical role in meeting the future needs of the African aviation industry.

EAA has trained pilots for various aircraft, including Boeing 787, B737NG, B737MAX, B767, and Airbus A350. It houses over eight modern full-flight and fixed-base simulators for pilot upgrades, transition, and recurrent training. With its expansion into a university, EAU will provide training to professionals across different aviation sectors.

The primary purpose of EAU is to lead and grow with current technological developments while addressing the sophisticated demands of airline operations and airport management. The university will focus on the production and manufacturing of aerospace components, airplane systems, and more, enabling the African aviation sector to create new products rather than just maintain existing ones.

Comprehensive Degree Programs at EAU

Starting in September 2023, EAU will offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in various fields. The available programs include B.Sc. in Aeronautical Engineering, B.Sc. in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, B.Sc. in Aviation Management and Operations, BA in Tourism and Hospitality Management, MBA in Aviation Management, and M.Sc. in Data Science.

Each program is tailored to meet the demands of the aviation industry and to prepare graduates for rewarding careers in the field. Students will have the opportunity to specialize in specific areas, such as airline or airport management, within certain degree programs.

EAU aims to train competent engineers and aviation professionals who can contribute to the aerospace manufacturing industry in Africa and beyond. The university plans to expand and manufacture aircraft components, systems, and even small aircraft in the future.

As part of its commitment to developing human capital, EAU will employ internationally renowned professors and maintain state-of-the-art facilities to ensure students receive the highest quality education. The university will also utilize its modern aircraft, flight simulators, workshops, and airline processes to demonstrate practical applications of classroom teachings.

The African aviation market has almost fully recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic, and tremendous potential awaits. EAU’s partnerships and collaboration with stakeholders will be crucial in unlocking opportunities and driving the growth of the aviation industry in Africa.
