Austrian Airlines has shared its long-haul fleet modernization plans, which include the arrival of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner at the beginning of 2024. This delivery is expected to positively impact the airline’s 2024 summer schedule and enhance passenger comfort. In the coming years, Austrian Airlines will receive a total of 10 Dreamliners, paving the way for growth and environmental benefits.
First Dreamliner Arrival in 2024
Austrian Airlines’ first Boeing 787-9 is set to arrive in early 2024, marking a significant milestone in the company’s fleet modernization plans. The Vienna-based airline’s 2024 summer schedule will feature a fleet of 66 aircraft, including 10 long-haul jets. Alongside the first Dreamliner, Austrian Airlines’ long-haul fleet will consist of three 767s and six 777s.
Long-Haul Fleet Rejuvenation Program
The first Boeing 787-9 will spearhead a larger long-haul fleet rejuvenation program for Austrian Airlines. The carrier plans to add nine more 787s by 2028, which will eventually replace its existing long-haul fleet. The Dreamliners are expected to significantly enhance passenger comfort, thanks to an innovative lighting system, ample overhead bins, and a biorhythm-adjustable lighting system that can reduce jet lag.
Environmental Benefits
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner also offers environmental benefits for Austrian Airlines. With innovative technology, lighter weight, improved aerodynamics, and modern jet engines, the aircraft can achieve up to a 20% reduction in fuel consumption compared to the 767. This move toward more sustainable aviation underscores Austrian Airlines’ commitment to environmental responsibility.
Austrian Airlines’ long-haul fleet modernization plans, starting with the arrival of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in 2024, signal a new era for the airline. With an enhanced passenger experience and a focus on environmental sustainability, the company is setting a strong foundation for future growth and success.
