The Federal Government of Nigeria announced in November that it is set to host the country’s first-ever international air show in 2025. In a statement by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, he revealed that the air show is slated to run for three days in the first quarter of the year.
He said, “The Ministry of Aviation will be championing the hosting of a Nigerian International Air Show to be held in Lagos next year, 2025. We expect this to happen in the first quarter of 2025. It will be the first time that an international air show will be held in Nigeria.”
The minister stated further, “There are two African policies that we will also seek to promote by this international air show. One is the Africa Continental Free Trade Area, which seeks to promote free trade within the African region. And the other is the Single African Air Transport Market (SATAM) within the aviation ecosystem in Africa.”
The CEO of Air Show International Nigeria, Miss Bria Okonkwo, said that quite a lot of events are expected to feature in the air show, including aircraft displays, live air shows, panel discussions, an industry awards ceremony, and B2B matchmaking sessions.
The Air Show is expected to attract global decision-makers in the aviation and aerospace industry.
A joint partnership with the Nigerian Air Force was also announced during a recent courtesy visit by the Chief of Air Staff to the Minister. The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, revealed that the Air Force had been independently planning its own air show before he was informed of the ministry’s similar initiative. He thought of the partnership idea and realized that a united approach would be a significant boost for the event and reinforce its global appeal.
To this effect, an eight-member committee has been established. The committee comprising representatives from the ministry and the Nigerian Air Force has been tasked with planning and executing all aspects of the air show.
The Minister of Aviation noted that the exact dates for the international air show have not been decided, but it will be held in Lagos, and the dates will be announced shortly.
