Recently, United Airlines announced a firm order for 100 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and an extra 100 options for additional 787s. The -8, -9, and -10 aircraft variants may all be part of the carrier’s order. The deal represents Boeing’s largest-ever order for the 787 Dreamliner. Moreover, the airline is reaffirming its commitment to the Boeing 737 MAX as it has added 56 new orders to the MAX’s existing 44 firm orders that have been converted from options. More than 530 Boeing aircraft are now on order by the airline, including more than 430 737 MAX aircraft. According to United, it hasn’t exactly decided which 787 model breakdown it will use.
With Boeing’s purchase, United Airlines claims that its widebody aircraft replacement requirements will now be satisfied for the ensuing ten years, enabling the airline to develop its global network. Scott Kirby, CEO of United, said on order:

“United emerged from the pandemic as the world’s leading global airline and the flag carrier of the United States. This order further solidifies our lead and creates new opportunities for our customers, employees and shareholders by accelerating our plan to connect more people to more places around the globe and deliver the best experience in the sky.”
Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines
Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes added:
“With this investment in its future fleet, the 737 MAX and 787 will help United accelerate its fleet modernization and global growth strategy. The Boeing team is honored by United’s trust in our family of airplanes to connect people and transport cargo around the world for decades to come.”
Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes
The airline’s decision is crucial for Boeing, which has just recently started twin-aisle Dreamliner deliveries again following a more than year-long delay due to quality issues, including fixing paper-thin cracks in the aircraft’s body. Inflation, supply chain problems, and other economic issues affected Boeing.

United Airlines now has around 700 brand-new aircraft on order!
Approximately 700 brand-new aircraft are currently on order for United Airlines, and their delivery won’t be simple. The Boeing 787 order placed today won’t be delivered for ten years. The last aircraft from this order will be delivered in 2032, although the first ones will arrive as early as 2024.
Between 2024 and 2026, 44 Boeing 737 MAX options are scheduled to be added to the fleet. The 56 completely new orders will take a little longer; delivery is expected in 2027 or 2028. The average number of new aircraft that United Airlines plans to add over the course of the coming year will be over two, with that number increasing to over three in 2024.
Any order, no matter how big or small, is appreciated by both Airbus and Boeing. Without a doubt, though, massive, attention-grabbing orders are what manufacturers naturally seek. After all, a hundred aircraft generate far more revenue than a single aircraft. In light of this, Boeing is probably pleased with this order.
