New details have emerged from the Royal Dutch Police regarding the tragic incident at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) on May 29, 2024, where a person was killed after being sucked into a running aircraft engine.

The Royal Marechaussee (Koninklijke Marechaussee, KMar), the Royal Dutch Police, has concluded that the person that was killed after being sucked into a running Embraer 190 jet engine at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) was a suicide.

The KMaR’s investigation determined that the man, employed by a service company operating at Schiphol Airport, deliberately entered the path of the running engine. Authorities withheld the name of the company to protect the privacy of the victim’s family.

The E190 involved in the incident, registered as PH-EZL, had just completed its pushback from the gate and was preparing for departure on KLM flight KL1341, a scheduled service between Amsterdam and Billund, Denmark. Flightradar24 data shows that PH-EZL operated three flights earlier that day. Following the incident, the aircraft was taken out of service.

A replacement KLM Cityhopper Embraer E190, registered as PH-EZM, operated the intended route according to Flightradar24 data. The E190 involved in the incident, delivered to KLM Cityhopper in January 2010, has not flown since the event.
