Boeing 737 KLM Plane Deviates from Its Course

The Dutch air craft landing following the accident

On December 28, 2024, a Boeing 737-800 operated by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines veered off the runway upon landing at Oslo Torp Sandefjord Airport. This airport is located south of the Norwegian capital.

The Boeing 737 Plane Crash

Oslo Airport, alternatively referred to as Oslo Gardermoen Airport, is an international airport serving Oslo, Norway’s capital and most populous city.

On Saturday evening, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines experienced an unprecedented incident at Oslo Airport. Indeed, a Boeing 737-800 veered off the runway shortly after takeoff. The flight had originally departed for Amsterdam. It returned to the airport due to a reported hydraulic issue. Following an investigation, authorities confirmed that all 182 passengers on board were unharmed. This incident has been captured on video and is widely spread online.

The video shows ground crew evacuating passengers from the aircraft using mobile stairs. Emergency responders arrived at the site.

Later, Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (NOS) confirmed that a loud noise was heard, leading to the diversion. On landing, pilots were unable to control the aircraft. It slid and entered the grass next to the runway.

Reports added that after all passengers had been transported to Torp Sandefjord airport’s terminal by bus, By 9:00, everyone was off the plane.

Similar Boeing 737 accidents

In a separate incident, an air crash occurred in South Korea. On Sunday morning, South Koreans woke up to a tragic incident at Muan International Airport. One of Jeju Air’s planes veered off course, causing significant loss of life among the passengers.

The Boeing 737-800 had 175 passengers and 6 crew members aboard. This made a total of 181 people. The flight was traveling from Bangkok, Thailand, to Muan International Airport in Seoul, South Korea

Investigations 

The Yonhap news agency reported that the plane crashed into a fence while attempting a landing without landing gear.

Investigators believe a malfunction in the landing gear, possibly due to a bird strike, led to the crash. The South Korean fire department later announced the death toll had increased to 167. They Only rescued two people. Both of them are crew members.

Safety measures 

These recent aviation incidents highlight the urgent need for stronger aviation safety standards. Furthermore, the multiple crashes involving Boeing 737-800 aircraft demonstrate the need for immediate action. As aviation evolves, passenger and crew safety must remain the top priority. So, we could do the following:

  • Address potential equipment malfunctions.
  • Improve pilot and Air traffic controller training.
  • Follow safety protocols at all times.
