Uzbekistan Airways, the national carrier of the Republic of Uzbekistan, has placed a firm order with Airbus for 12 A320neo Family aircraft, comprising 8 A320neo and 4 A321neo planes. This order comes as the airline looks to modernize its fleet and expand its domestic and international route network.
Fleet Modernization Strategy
The new A320neo Family aircraft will feature the Airbus Airspace cabin, which offers premium comfort in the single-aisle market. The airline’s Chairman of the Board, Ilhom Makhkamov, said that this order is a new step in the carrier’s fleet modernization strategy, with the aim of offering passengers the most modern and comfortable aircraft.

Uzbekistan Airways’ current fleet and operations
Uzbekistan Airways currently has a fleet of 39 aircraft, 32 of which are listed as operating, according to Simple Flying:
- 9x Airbus A320-200 (8 active)
- 3x Airbus A320neo (2 active)
- 4x Airbus A321neo (4 active)
- 1x Airbus A321XLR (1 active)
- 2x Airbus ACJ320 (2 active)
- 2x Boeing 757-200 (1 active)
- 7x Boeing 767-300 (5 active)
- 2x Boeing 767-300 BCF (2 active)
- 7x Boeing 787-8 (7 active)
- 2x Ilyushin Il-76 (0 active)
You might not be aware, but Uzbekistan Airway already has a big global network. According to Cirium, the airline has 48 destinations scheduled for January flights. Although the network is largely concentrated in its neighboring nations, it does reach as far as Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Frankfurt, London Heathrow, and even JFK Airport in New York.
Expansion in Central Asia
In addition to providing a more comfortable flying experience for passengers, the new fuel-efficient A320neo Family aircraft will also help Uzbekistan Airways to expand further and strengthen its footprint in Central Asia. The airline’s Chairman of the Board, Ilhom Makhkamov, said that the new planes would help the carrier to develop its domestic and international network.
Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International, Christian Scherer, said that the company sees good potential for growth in the Central Asia region in the coming years and that the modern and efficient A320neo will enable Uzbekistan Airways to benefit from this growth and play a leading role in the region.

A320neo Family: The World’s Most Popular Aircraft
The A320neo Family incorporates the latest technologies, including new generation engines and Sharklets, which together deliver at least 20% fuel savings and reduced CO2 emissions. With over 8,600 orders from more than 130 customers, the A320neo Family is the world’s most popular aircraft.
Uzbekistan Airways’ order for the A320neo Family aircraft will significantly boost Airbus as the company looks to expand its market share in the region. The airline will make the choice of engines for the new planes at a later stage.
