Jazeera Airways, a budget airline based in Kuwait, has disclosed its intentions to include Sphinx International Airport (SPX) to its list of destinations in Egypt, making it the seventh airport in the country to be served by the airline. Starting May 16, the airline will start providing direct flights between Kuwait International Airport (KWI) and SPX, utilizing Airbus A320neo planes for four weekly flights.
Easy Access to Tourist Sites
Jazeera Airways will be expanding its reach in Egypt with the inclusion of SPX, bringing the total number of airports served by the airline in the country to seven. The new service will enable customers to easily access popular tourist destinations in Greater Cairo and Giza, as well as the Red Sea resorts. Rohit Ramachandran, the CEO of Jazeera Airways, expressed his satisfaction with the new route, emphasizing its affordability and convenience for Kuwaiti students studying in Egypt and the Egyptian expatriate community visiting relatives.
Alternative to Cairo
Sphinx International Airport offers an alternative option for travelers heading to the surrounding areas, located just an hour away from downtown Giza and two hours from Cairo International Airport. Due to its close proximity to Egypt’s primary hub, the airport allows for a quicker journey for customers arriving and departing, particularly during peak seasons. Jazeera Airways anticipates that customers could potentially save up to two hours of travel time during rush hour traffic by choosing to travel through SPX instead of Cairo International.
Reducing Congestion in Cairo
The inclusion of SPX in Jazeera Airways’ list of destinations is expected to alleviate the traffic congestion in Cairo. The airport’s two terminals have an annual passenger capacity of 1.2 million, serving up to 900 individuals per hour. As global air travel approaches pre-pandemic levels and the Egyptian Museum in Giza opens Sphinx Airport is predicted to witness a rise in passenger traffic throughout the year.
Egypt: A Popular Tourist Destination
Egypt is a highly popular tourist destination in Africa, with millions of visitors arriving every year. The CEO of Jazeera Airways acknowledges the important role played by Egypt’s Civil Aviation authorities in enhancing connectivity to the country. Jazeera Airways provides daily flights to Cairo, which is a significant gateway to Africa. The airline operates a fleet of eight Airbus A320s and 11 A320neos.
The addition of SPX to Jazeera Airways’ route network is anticipated to promote tourism in Egypt. The new service will offer customers effortless access to prevalent tourist destinations and the Red Sea resorts, while also easing traffic congestion in Cairo. As global air travel gradually recovers and the Egyptian Museum in Giza opens, Sphinx Airport is projected to become a favored destination for individuals traveling to Egypt.
