Lufthansa Airbus A380, with registration D-AIMK, flew to Manila, Philippines, for heavy maintenance before its return to service in the coming months. This is the first A380 to be inspected by Lufthansa’s maintenance technicians, as the airline aims to restore some of its double-deckers for the upcoming summer season starting in March 2023.
The CEO of the carrier, Jens Ritter, stated that the aircraft underwent initial maintenance in Frankfurt, Germany, for two months after long-term storage. Prior to this, the double-deck jet was stored at Teruel Airport (TEV) in Spain from May 2020 to December 2022.

Lufthansa plans to return other aircraft to service besides the Airbus A380, including some Airbus A340-600s, along with the A380 and Boeing 747-8, among the few Lufthansa aircraft equipped with First Class seats.
Lufthansa plans to reactivate the Airbus A340-600s in Q2 2023, aiming to increase its summer capacity and add more First Class seats. D-AIHZ is undergoing maintenance in the Philippines, while D-AIHY arrived in Munich, Germany, on December 14, 2022, as per flightradar24.com records. Two A340-600s have already left Teruel Airport (TEV). Lufthansa has a total of 10 Airbus A340-600 and 8 Airbus A380 aircraft, according to data from planespotters.net.
